The prickly pear cactus is one of the most common in the Sonoran Desert. Most have yellow, orange or red blooms and are a welcome hit of color. This particular variety – the purple prickly pear – had dramatic light-pink to fuschia blooms and the supporting pads have a bluish-purple tint to them. Not as prevalent, but certainly one of my favorites!
