We are innovating highly sustainable artwork from rescued hatmaker’s felt remnants. They are irresistibly tactile and interactive while being a beautiful way to dampen sound in homes and public spaces. Our fascination with texture and the need to innovate has led us to creating unique mixed media sculptures. Our most recent body of work gives new life to thousands of pounds of previously discarded scraps, specifically, the remnants trimmed from the brims of felt hats. We have developed a process of cutting, bending and layering the intricate felt pieces over carved wood, creating richly organic shapes that are impossible to resist the urge to reach out and touch. A wave of studies have documented some incredible physical and mental benefits that come from touch. Because of the soft yet firm nature of the hatmaker’s felt, it mimics petting an animal which science has proven can greatly reduce stress levels by releasing the “feel good” hormones. 14″x17″3″
