Ruby Slippers series. When Dorothy wore the Ruby Slippers she had the power to do what she wanted most, but she didn’t realize this at first. She was even told by Glenda the Good Witch of the North that the magic of the Ruby Slippers must be very powerful or the Wicked Witch of the West wouldn’t want them so badly. Dorothy still didn’t get it. She had to figure it out on her own. We all have the power within ourselves to be or do what we want, even if we have to wear the Ruby Slippers to figure it out.

"In my paintings I explore themes from urban environments.  Most of this imagery has a personal connection for me.  I was a sign artist for many years and signage can sometimes figure prominently in my work, as can clothing influenced by my tailor grandmother who was a creative force in my life.  My interest in projected self-image shows up in my depictions of shop windows, storefronts, clothing and automobiles.  Much of my technique is informed by my former occupation as a trompe l’oeil painter and sign artist."
